Operation "Sieze The Day!"

operation  " sieze the day has begun. I'm going to be an awareness doggie for epilepsy in pets and kids.
Today Lady Kay was working on designing my vest, t-shirts and toys when I begun to have a seizure. It was the first time Ali-Lady saw me have one. Scary. I'm excited to be an awareness pet and will be working on being a therapy doggie too so I can visit kids at home and at school and help them know they are not alone and to be brave. I want to  help their schools be prepared by knowing what to do when one of my friends have the shakes. Operation "Sieze the Day" has begun!

Hi! My Name Is Jake and I'm an Epileptic...

Wednesday November 14, 2012 at approx 1:47 pm I was diagnosed with Adult onset Epilepsy.

I'm a 15 month old Lab mix.  I love going to the doggie park, hangin with my DAWGZ at Doggie Daycare a Doggie Mannerz, squeaky toys, chewing up lady Kay's slippers and laying in piles of cloths.  I steal yummy food off the counter when no one is looking, I like to chew and chew and CHEW! I'm a normal dog. And I have Epilepsy.  Lady Kay saw my first seizure on Halloween 2012.  I can't remember if that was my first one or not. But I had my 2nd and 3rd one 15 days later at 3:00 am and 3:53 am.  She called my vet the next morning. They reported the first one and my regular vet did blood work and an examination and everything was fine.  This time because I'm so young and the seizures are so violent and because I had 2 within an hour of each other my Vet felt I needed to go Advanced Veterinary Care.  It was there where I was diagnosed. They put me on medication: Potassium Bromide. I had to take 2 tablets every 6 hours for the first day and then just 2 a day from now on.  I go back to the vet to check my Potassium in 21 days.  Lady Kay has been reading up on epilepsy in doggies. I'm not the only one. That makes me feel good that I'm not alone. There are millions of doggies out there like me and they go on to live long happy lives. And there are millions of people out there like me too that have epilepsy.  I know for little kids it's scarey and sometimes it embarrasses them when it happens. I want them to know it's ok and to be strong and brave.Maybe one day when I get my own epilepsy under control I can go around to schools and talk to kids about it so they know they're not alone.
Lady Kay says I'm an amazing doggie. And only a Dog like me would find out they have epilepsy during National Epilepsy Month. (November)

Hi My name is Jake. And I'm an epileptic. And you can call me "Shake n Jake!!!"

So Much Going On With Me Lately....

Monday I got my bandages off. I was so happy!  Tuesday I went to  doggie day care up at Doggie Mannerz and hung out with my DAWGZ after being bed ridden for a week! I've been feeling so much better.

But something happened early Wednesday Morning. About 3:00 am I had another Seizure. Lady K was so scared. It was really bad I started shaking and went rigid. I lost bodily function and peed all over the place. I was even foaming at the mouth. I don't like these things called Seizures. I didn't eat anything bad so I dont know what's going on with me. Lady kay cleaned me and my bed all up and  helped me feel a little better.

And then at 3:54 I had ANOTHER seizure. Im really really scared now. This is the 3rd one in 15 days and  2 of them were less than 1 hour apart.  I don't like these things. I think I really really need help! :(

PETCO, Where Pets Go

Me and my new toys while I'm convalescing. The General Manger Micki gave these to me when she heard how sick I've been.  I can't wait to get better so I can go see her and tell her thank you. I love PETCO where Pets go!

Best Bed EVER.

So last summer  Lady K found this Love Sac at a garage sale for $15.  BEST PET BED EVER!  Ok so it's not really a pet bed but I sort of claimed it. I get to sleep all upside down on it and stuff.  No matter how I sleep in it, it's comfy.  The fact that it's only 15 bucks is BONUS!!!

I WANT OUT!

This is me on my day bed looking out of the window dreaming of running through that white stuff they call snow. There's lots of it, about 2 feet. I've been whining to go out.  But i have to keep my bandages dry. For the last 4 days I only get to go out to use the bathroom then it's back in bed.The Dr made me a cool little plastic boot from an I.V bag for when I go outside.   I'll be glad when I can run and play again. But for now, I'll just sit out the window.... and WHINE...

Knocked OUT!

What a week! soo soo tired. zzzZZZZZ!

I got new toys! They SQUEAK!!!  Lady Kay went to Petco in WVC to get me some snacks since I can't be on my paw for a few days.  She was talking to the General Manager Micki and mentioned I was having a hard November.  Micki donated these squeaky toys for me to play with while I'm on bed rest. I like Petco where pets go and that was really cool of her to give me toys at no charge when Im not feeling well. When Im all better Im going to go see her and tell her thank you because I really do love my squeaky squeaks!

*Side note! I walked into Petco to find some snacks for Jake when Micki asked me if she could help me with anything. I told her I wasn't sure what I wanted but explained that in the last week 10 days Jake had a seizure, had  labs done and infected foot and is on antibiotics. She directed me towards some health treats and  said she wanted to buy him 2 toys of my choice. I picked out a small squeaky toy and she actually grabbed the bigger one and said, It's got 10 squeakers in it, he'll love it.  I was thinking of the cheapest ones and she grabbed a big one with no thought to cost. And threw in a couple extra treats.  It's people like her  that will make me a Petco Customer for life.  Well done Micki at the Petco in West Valley. Jake and I will be in soon to say thank you!

OWIES!!!

I got an OWIE!  Was back at the Dr Today. My foot is infected where the toenail came up.  The doctor said they could sedate me and then pull the toenail off.  OR they could clean it up really well put some antibiotic on it, wrap it up for a few days, keep me off of it and then start to clip the toenail a little bit at a time. The last option would be the least expensive option also.  We went with the last option. They cleaned it, wrapped it put some antibiotic on it and then gave me some pain pills and other antibiotics to take for the next 2 weeks.  And put me on bed rest for the next 4 days. . BOOO!

I'm Having a RUFF November

My Paw was getting better but I hurt it again. It was bleeding again this morning and it hurt for me to stand on.  I took another trip to see my vet, Dr Rick Whitty. I like Dr Whitty he's cool. No body expects to see a Dr with a Pony Tail and a Soul Patch. He works at SALT LAKE VETERINARY SERVICES.It was the 3rd time since Halloween. Im having a  RUFF November.  I like Dr Whitty he's cool. No body expects to see a Dr with a Pony Tail and a Soul Patch. He works at SALT LAKE VETERINARY SERVICES. I like it there because they're nice, and gentle and give me lots of love and treats! They also are very conscious about my Ladies' Pocket Book too!.      Turns out the toenail on my paw is infected :(  They cleaned it really well and it hurt. I cried. But they did too, so I know they didn't mean too.  They put some antibiotics on it and bandaged it up. Im supposed to stay off it for about 5 days.  FIVE DAYS!! That's going to be hard. But I got doggie cookies for being good.

*Side note: Dr Whitty and the folks at Salt Lake Veterinary Services are AMAZING!!!  Since this was the 3rd time in 10 days we've seen him he discounted today's visit. Very kind and thoughtful of them and the staff. People do that too much these days.  Dr Whitty and SLCVS just earned a customer for life

:( IM WOUNDED!

That's a bandage on my poor little Paw! It was time for me to come out of my kennel for the day. I was so excited to see my Ladies that I caught my toenails on one of the metal bars. I yelped really loud and didn't walk on it for a few minutes. then it started bleeding really bad.  The ladies put some peroxide on it and put a bandage on it. OWIES :(

Im Scared!

Human's celebrate this thing called HALLOWEEN. I don't like it very much. It's got loud creepy noises and creepy things with creepy faces hanging around doors and trees.  I got sick today and my dinner came up :( So  I wasn't feeling well.    And then this awful horrible thing happened to me.  I had what they call a Seizure.  A grand mal seizure. It was really really scarey and I couldn't stop it.

A couple days later November 2nd  I went to my Vet. Ad Salt Lake Vet services. Dr Rick Whitty did a whole examination on me. They took some blood to see if maybe I ate something that's making me sick.  I weight 54 pounds so I grew since he saw me in June and gave me my vaccinations.  After they took my blood and my temperature I got to come home.  They called back and said everything looks fine except I may have some hypertension or  hypothyroidism It's hard to tell cuz I'm still a puppy. I'm only 15 months old so I'm still growing and my  body is still changing.  I went back to the vet to get my  blood pressure checked on November 5th. It's fine.  So they think I just got into something. I hope so. Cuz Seizures are SCAREY..

The Simple Things In Life!

One of the ladies took me to the dog park. I met a fun little tow year old pitt who brought coolest toy! It was a mountain bike tire her guy bought her at the D.I.  for  a buck. We played tug of war for over 30 minutes!! IT. WAS. AWESOME!!!! It's not so easy to find someone to tug o war with who can last as long as I can. Humans are funny! You spend lots and lost of money on toys for us that don't last... and sometimes all we want is a stick from the woods to chew and chase and a $1 mountain bike tire.
